Light Blue Optics demos smaller, brighter mini projector at CES 09January 8, 2009--At this week's International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 09), Light Blue Optics (LBO, Cambridge, UK) is unveiling holographic laser projectors with optics half the size and twice the brightness of previous versions. The company is showing the systems to key customers and partners, and plans to make its first product release to OEMs later this year. The systems enable new use-case scenarios for hand-held accessory pico projectors, LBO says.

NIST researchers develop nanoindentation technique to measure thin-film toughnessJanuary 6, 2009--Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have developed a method to measure the toughness--the resistance to fracture--of the thin insulating films that play a critical role in high-performance integrated circuits. The new technique could help improve the reliability and manufacturability of ICs and, better yet, microelectronics manufacturers can perform the test using equipment they already own.

Photodiode-preamplifier
The blue/green enhanced, 6 mm2 photodiode-preamplifier ODA-6WB-500M is designed for fluorescence detection and low-light-level medical diagnostic applications. With a sensitivity response at 450 nm, typically 140 V/µW (min. 100), the detector operates between 400 and 1100 nm, with peak spectral frequency at 940 nm. It has a transimpedence gain of 500 MΩ.
